Post and rail fence is a classic design found on acreages surrounding Calgary from Springbank to Bearspaw to Spruce Meadows. It stands out among other fence styles and endures the test of time.
It's the most popular fence we build because it looks great and it's super strong. It keeps horses safely contained in the paddocks where they belong or with the addition of a mesh wire makes an attractive dog fence (click on “Fence Styles” at top right for more on these). There are numerous styles and different sized materials to choose from when constructing a new fence or replacing an old one which we can advise on based on your requirements and budget.

At Foothills Fencing Inc we want to build you the very best post and rail fence possible.
Long before we begin we start with asking questions so we can meet your needs and exceed your expectations. Factors such as grazing pressure, pasture size, soil type, gradient, moisture levels along with fence gate and watering locations can all influence recommended material choices and construction techniques on the farm or acreage.
Naturally we realize cost is important decision making factor with an expectation of high quality. For a fence with the best overall strength and appearance vs cost we typically recommend using 5 1/4" x 7 foot doweled posts depending on the particular application and specific customer requirements. We use a hydraulically driven post pounder to drive the fence posts in the ground which makes the post much more secure rather than disturbing the ground with an auger and backfilling. Finally we affix 3 1/2" rails to the fence posts using 6 inch fasteners which makes for a super strong, lasting and maintenance free post and rail fence. No painting required! Great for horses and enhancing the look and value of your rural property and acreage.
