Plank fence is an interesting alternative to post and rail fence for an acreage.
It's terrific for horse pastures, it's completely made of wood and it's appearance offers a wonderful rustic charm as seen in the photo above. This fence we built on an acreage just outside of Cochrane is constructed with pressure treated fence posts set 8 feet apart and most commonly three 2x6x16 foot rough cut planks. If additional height is required we install taller fence posts and an optional, equally spaced 4th plank.
This a 3 plank horse fence we built west of Calgary on Springbank Road. It utilizes pressure treated posts and planks for a refined appearance.
Strong enough for horses, this post and plank fence in Priddis uses pressure treated posts with rough cut spruce planks for a solid, rustic appearance and is lined with page wire (farm fence) to keep the dog away from the road.
This plank fence is west of Calgary in Springbank. It looks great and keeps the horses safe on the acreage.

This is a post and 3 plank fence we built in Priddis. It's primary purpose was to help secure the acreage as well as keep the dog away from the road. To prevent the dog from passing through the fence we installed page wire (farm fence) to the back of the plank fence. Strong enough for a horse. A serious dog fence!
